CYTT: Ring Three

my hometown: Montpelier, VT

where I live: Montpelier, VT

where I teach: Montpelier VT, Burlington VT, Underhill VT, Norfolk VA

what I practice & teach: I practice and teach contact improvisation, circus and partner yoga, centering bodywork, experiential anatomy, nature and embodiment, awareness, love, organizational leadership, Anusara Yoga, Authentic Movement and I lead trips in the wilderness.

my education, training & experience: I have been leading wilderness trips and practicing yoga for over 10 years and have loved every minute of it.

I fell in love with the Green Mountains and moved to Vermont in 1999. While attending the University of Vermont (UVM) I studied Anthropology and led trips for the Outing Club, trained Outing Club trip leaders, and started practicing yoga. For three full years I lead wilderness trips (backpacking, rock climbing, mountaineering, canoeing and white water rafting) for Outward Bound (Maine/Oregon/California) in the summers and for primitive skills at-risk youth programs in the winter desert of Utah. In 2003 I returned to Vermont to study social work at UVM. For one year I coordinated the Youth Restorative Justice Panel for the Burlington Community Justice Center. In 2005 I traveled to India to deepen my yoga practice and to discover Thai Massage. I then started my Thai Massage practice and continued to study Thai Massage with two other schools and with two local mentors. I was introduced to Anusara Yoga in 2006 and I have loved studying this form of yoga. For two years I worked for the City of Burlington to help create the city's Parallel Justice program for victims of crime. During this time I also began to teach Facilitative Leadership and started another business named Ready Adventures with a business partner. I have been self-employed since June 2008, working in these many realms and weaving it all back into my vision of Dharma Door Retreat. Contact improvisation dance came into my life in 2008 and felt like coming home and coming alive. While at an event at Earthdance I was lucky to meet Erin and Amy and discover CircusYoga. CircusYoga clearly combines all of the things I love and I am delighted to be a part of this community.

It has always been an honor to do this work and live this path.

my influential teachers: My greatest teacher so far has been my mother Karen Jaffe who has taught me how to communicate with compassion, think critically and globally, and to listen through the ears of my heart. I have learned so much from every person I have come across. I also appreciate all that I have learned from myself.

my current studies & adventures: I love and live contact improvisation dance. I practice this form daily and seek ways to deepen and expand my understanding of embodiment and awareness. I also love the form of Authentic Movement combined with ritual and intention. I am currently studying Body Mind Centering with Christine Cole and I study the voice with Ethie Friend. My next adventure will take me to Brazil to study more contact improvisation. And I am in love
