I have always rocked boats, pushed against entrenched assumptions, and leapt over the edges of the ideas that most frighten me. I am drawn to mystery, ambiguity, and inexplicable truths. I am most moved by small generosities of spirit, and the unbridled, raucous laughter of children. I believe that, though our humanity is challenged daily, we have an innate concern for each other’s well-being that needs to be encouraged, and nurtured. I am tired of making sense, and believe there are astounding riches to be found in irrationality, playfulness, and absurdity.

I love learning. That is why I am a teacher.

I am human. That is why I am an artist.

I am in love. That is how I stay alive.

In my teaching I invite curiosity, wonder, awe and surprise into the space so that we can generate magnificent ideas and rediscover how beautifully astonishing the world is. I allow for silent moments to daydream, reflect, and absorb understandings slowly and gently. I listen to stories. I tell my own. I dare to reveal what I know about the nature of life. Its fragility, unpredictability, and disappointment. I nurture resilience, and encourage risk taking. I fly children and adults until they learn that they can fly themselves.

Sometimes I think the most important things we will ever learn are compassion and gratitude.

All I want is to share what I have, to ask the right questions, and to be satisfied with silence and laughter as the answers. All I want is to see children playing in the garden, and to speak loudly when the right people have stopped listening.

There is always more.....
